It's not an everyday thing

ChaCha couldn't think when the spell broke. Maybe it was on the street. Oh, she was so close to going somewhere with this Fiction character. They were just about to go into the makeup boutique. Of course, she'd always wanted to go to one of those but never had a chance.

To find the perfect blush and a foundation perfect for her skin was only a dream. Back at the palace she never got these kinds of choices. They were always made for her. Was that why she was so intrigued with him? After all, he spoke of Chinese Opera. Why did she have to be so enamored with an actor?

ChaCha looked at him wide-eyed now as they were about to go into the shop. She grabbed Milo's arm as if she might somehow fly away with Fiction.

"This is my husband, you know," ChaCha informed him. "We want to know what you're really up to."

"What?" Fiction looked a bit baffled. "What would I be up to? You look like a hick by the way you dress. I just assumed you needed a bit of culture."

ChaCha grimaced back. What did she think she needed?

"He's playing a game," Milo looked down at her and smiled.

"A game?" ChaCha squinted harder. How cruel, she thought.

"But you like the makeups, don't you?" Fiction was a bit of a salesman, after all. "Sister Zhang runs the place."

Milo looked at him as if he might think she was behind this. Maybe her makeups were more than met the eye.

"Well, shall we?" Milo lead the way, but ChaCha protested as she pulled him back.

"But what if..what if it's a trap?"

Milo only sighed. "We'll know when we get there." He pointed out. Milo did want to meet this sister of his.

  1. So mysterious! And funny: "Oh, she was so close to going somewhere with this Fiction character." I was struck by how much ChaCha wanted to visit the makeup boutique because she never got to choose her own stuff, instead making do with whatever they gave her at the palace. It's an interesting point, privileged people being robbed of the simplest freedoms. Like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Anyway, I was intrigued to learn that this may be "no ordinary" boutique and that part of the reason Fiction is so pushy is because he's a salesman. I can't wait to see what happens next!

  2. I loved the chapter. Trying new things, even if it's shopping for makeup, is quite challenging.
