When the road comes to an end

The stead began to plod along. Yet, there seemed to be no end insight even if they'd come along more roads traveled. There were high cliffs of vegetation. Instantly, Milo thought of tribes gathered for war. Aeros spinning and directed at each other's enemies.

"What's wrong?" ChaCha awoke him from such a final destiny.

"Oh, it's nothing." At least the horse hadn't come to a complete stop. It headed toward a little oasis on the side of the road. They could feed the horse and at least find a warm meal. It wasn't quite nightfall, but the sun was ready to set.

At this point, ChaCha was going on about how amazing the horse was. "I want to name you, Honor."

She patted down his soft nose and of course, the stead might as well have been a calm mare by now.

Milo thought it was funny. He took care of the horse first and told her she should see what was on the menu. Of course, they'd have to eat outside. But ChaCha shook her head, no. It was as if she was certain she knew her place. She was to walk behind the man. She knew she wasn't completely free.

"All right." He grabbed her hand to make sure everyone knew they were together. Finally, for a reasonable fee, they had roasted chicken and rice with a bit of veg. They chowed down as if they'd been unearthed into a whole new world.

About then came a merchant or two from the road. Naturally, they tried to sell them what little they had left to sell, as in spices and cures.

Milo winced a smile and said no thank you.

The other got out his jade bracelets hidden in his coat of robes.

"Isn't she lovely?" The merchant grinned at ChaCha, but she wouldn't look at him. Milo only looked at old man as if he didn't need this kind of proposition. Milo wanted to eat and drink warm wine.

"Not nearly as lovely as me," said a voice. They turned to see a child in red. Her hair was rolled in two buns a little lopsided on her head. She grinned at Milo. "Long time, stranger."

  2. Chicken base meals are my favourite. Roasted chicken and rice with abit of vegetables make them happy and happier. I understand this from the 7th paragraph.

  4. Ooh, what a gut punch of an ending! Here we think that Milo is just trying to lose a skeevy salesman leering at ChaCha:

When things go in a completely new direction:

Now I need to know who this little girl is and how she fits into the mission!

  5. I loved it a lot. The imagery, the little details. It captures and analyses human emotions so beautifully. Sounds like a nice name for a horse to me. Who will be the girl with the ponytails? 🤔
